Joomap is a Sitemap component for Joomla CMS version 1.5.x. Joomap offers a wide range of configuration options and can also generate a Google Sitemaps listing of your website’s structure. Joomap also implements a very simple plugin-mechanism to import content from external components.

Max: Those articles are referenced more than once. Your first-level menu-entry “Sanitätsdienst” is set to “Sectionblog” (layout=blog). And then some of the articles are also linked to the “Sanitätsdienst” menu-entry (second-level). Try to disable “Expand Section” (”Bereiche ausklappen” in the german version) in the Joomap Component Administrator and you will see.

When you set to display more then 1 menu, only the first menu will be prefixed with a menutitle. The other menu’s are not displayed with menutitles.

Nice site, jason. All your links are SEF-links, so you might need to place a link to the joomap component somewhere in some menu so it gets resolved correctly.

Nice work. Two remorks: a short manual would be helpful, just tell people to register the sitemap with Google.
Can you add the possibility to include a content page on the sitemap page displayed? This allows me to add illustrations and some text to meke Google ads more happy with the page. I think it is not very difficult to do. In the admin page add the MCE editor, and display the results in the view. In the database you need to add the content. Or just show a complete article.

I added Joomap to my website and named it Sitemap in the menu.
Clicking on sitemap it displays alle the menu-options, but following an option (b.e. Kerkenraad) I get the artcle from the frontpage and not de article Kerkenraad.
Am I doing something wrong ?

I’m using joomap beta for joomla 1.5.6 and when I view the google file the site links look like this:

All the addresses in the sitemap are listed as in a folder /home/home - the site is in a sub folder /home but there is no folder /home/home
The map displays correctly in the sitemap page on my joomla site however Google flags a warning for all /home/home links.
I’ve installed sh404sef in an effort to solve the problem but to no effect.

the joomap reports all links to be in sub folder ../2008/2008/ which does not exist

Where can I find a virtuemart plugin for this? Works nice when I change the “1″ at the end to a “0″ but not showing anything from VM. Assume this is due to the 1.1.2 release as someone else mentioned.

Hi just downloaded joomap ver 2.06. I understand it is still in beta mode, my Joomla Global SEO settings on. The sitemap link in joomap isn’t conforming to SEO. When I click the Display/Google Sitemap a new webpage opens and there is broken text. I have also tried it with SEO setting turned off with the same issue. I’m sure the component works and would be a great tool for SEF Google. It appears that the code is printing out hard text for the sites menu links etc. Shouldn’t the link be echo “ menu details. I have started making modules and always find errors if I don’t put \ in front of quotation (”) so that the html code is echoed correctly. Let me know when you have some solutions. Regards doogalazza

Ich habe auch ein Problem, in meinem Menü gibt es ein paar Links die auf eine Kategorie führen, ein anderer aber führt auf einen Bereich. Die mit der Kategorie laufen, die mit den Bereichen nicht. Zudem wird in der URL nur die ID nicht aber der Beitragstitel angezeigt….

Hi, the articles on the frontpage are not included into the sitemap. This means that Google does not find the articles. I did a manually check in the “sitemap.xsd” and they indeed do not appear in the list and the sitemap. I was already wondering why Google did not index my frontpage items… Is there something I did wrong?

The component is appending an Itemid with an ‘&’ when there is no ‘?’ in the href of the link. It results in a 404 message. Great component though.

Ganz seltsames Problem: Bei einem Projekt (aktuelles Joomla 1.5.8, aktuelle Joomap Beta und sh404SEF) gibt es beim Aufruf der Sitemap immer die Meldung “Die aufgerufene Website leitet die Anfrage so um, dass sie nie beendet werden kann.” Hinter die normale URL wird versucht ein “lang,de/” anzuhängen. Alle Übersetzungen für Joomap sind bei sh404SEF deaktiviert. Zeitweise war Joomfish drauf, ist aber deinstalliert. Ob das hier noch für Probleme sorgt?

Joomap doesn’t work. I’ve installed the latest beta for Joomla 1.5.x and I get a 404 Error whenever trying to access the component. Backend Admin works, but can’t access Google Sitemap or HTML Sitemap (404 Resource not Found).
I am using Joomla 1.5.7 and Joomla Core SEF is On, as well as apache mod_rewrite.

Hi,
I found a problem with the sitemap. I am running Joomla 1.5.6 and Joomap 2.06 beta. All external links were getting appended with the Itemid of the menu. I made a small change to fix it. Do you want me to send it to you so that you can incorporate the same in your next release?

everything i added was an if statement that only runs the part when $node->modified isnt empty. (the script showed these entrys twice when $node->modified was either defined or undefined.. now publishing or unpublishing works again too..)

Gets round the problem of duplicate content URL’s on section and category blog pages by allowing you to not expand sections/categories.
the xml sitemap looks good, but can’t get it to display on site front end though by adding a component link? it just redirects to /index.php rather than /index.php?option=com_joomap

I’m hoping you can help. I installed Joomap on a Joomla 1.5 site with the Joomla native SEO on. When I add the Joomap to a menu and call it jmap - it gives me a 404 error with the following address:

I’m also getting a 404 error with the following address:

Leider funktioniert die Sortierung nicht gemäss der Definition in Joomla.
Beispiel: Ein Kategorie-Blog enthält mehrere Beiträge. Die Sortierung im Menü ist auf Reihenfolge/Reihenfolge eingestellt.
Im Backend sind die Beiträge nach Wunsch eingeordnet.
Resultat: Im Frontend werden alle Beiträge in der richtigen Reihenfolge angezegit, aber in der SiteMap leider nicht!
Es scheint, als ob JooMap die Hauptsortierung (Standard) anwendet.
Frage: gibt es eine Möglichkeit, die Sortierung umzustellen/anzupassen?
Für konkrete (getestete) Vorschläge bin ich sehr dankbar.

Lösung des Problems (vorläufig):
Da es sich bei der Hauptsortierung um die chronologische Reihenfolge der Beiträge handelt, habe ich nun bei allen Beiträgen im Blog das Datumsfeld editiert und damit die Reihenfolge manuell festgelegt.
Resultat: Die Beiträge werden jetzt korrekt in die SiteMap einsortiert.
Kommentar: Dieser Trick stellt nur eine Notlösung dar. Das Tool JooMap müsste eigentlich die verschiedenen Sortierungen zur Auswahl anbieten, oder wenigstens die in Joomla eingestellte Vorgabe übernehmen.
Vielleicht wird Daniel an dem Vorschlag ja Gefallen finden?!

gutes Sache das Teil. Bin absolut zufrieden und konnte alle Probleme lösen, nur eines ist geblieben:
Google liest wie gewünscht die erstellte XML aus, gibt aber folgende Warnung:
Alle URLs in Ihrer XML-Sitemap haben die gleiche Priorität.
Allen URLs in Ihrer XML-Sitemap wurde die gleiche Priorität zugewiesen, und zwar nicht die Standardpriorität. Die Priorität gibt die relative Wichtigkeit einer bestimmten URL im Vergleich zu den anderen URLs auf Ihrer Website an. Sie hat keinen Einfluss auf die Leistung Ihrer Website in Suchergebnissen. Besitzen alle URLs die gleiche Priorität, kann Google nicht feststellen, welche wichtiger sind.
Was bedeutet das? WIe kann ich es ändern? Muss ich etwas ändern?

ich habe dein super Module installiert. Bisher habe ich kein probleme gehabt (Joomla 1.0) aber mit Joomla 1.59 (+Remository) habe ich jetzt folgendes Problem :

Was komisch ist : die Menu boutique-en-nom-propre hat nicht das ID 36 sondern 68…

I installed Joomap without problems, and added it to the main menu on my site as ‘Site map’ with public access. However, when I click on Site map, I get a 403 error. Only if I log in on my site, do I see the site map, despite the fact that it has public access. I don’t want a visitor to have to create an account just to see my site map. How do I get around this problem?

I have multi-language homepage and I have 2 problems with Joomap:
1) Different languages show as /en/, /ru/ and so on in address but Joomap makes all links as they were pages of active language. So for example if I have english as active language then sitemap to a finnish page (http://…/fi/yhteystiedot) shows addres as http://…/en/yhteystiedot. When clicking on that link you get a finnish article on an english page (english menus, footer and so on…).
2) Menu Items made as Alias give wrong links that lead to 404 pages. Joomap gives alias a link http://…/et?Itemid=21&option=, but linked content is at http://…/et/teenus/teenus
Now if exclude those alias meny IDs from Joomap Configuration, then child items of those menus are also excluded :(
I have SE friendly addresses with mod_rewrite turned on, Joomfish and M17n extensions (+some more).
Both issues are also bad for giving sitemap to google for example! So I hope that they can be fixed soon.

For some reason my joomap has stopped working, google now says “unsupported file format” and google has indexed all my pages with these errors.
500 - Error: 500 - 2 visits - 19 MarSH404SEF : headers were already sent when I got control! Killed at line 351 in sh404sef.php: HEADERS ALREADY SENT (200) …
Any idea how to get the sitemap working again?

I was having a problem with standard SEF Urls and Joomap. The article level did not have the category id. Here is the fix that I have applied.
in the file \administrator\components\com_joomap\plugins\content.plugin.php
change line 234 in the function getCategory($id) from :
$node->link = ‘index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=’.$item->id;
to
$node->link = ‘index.php?option=com_content&view=article&catid=’.$id.’&id=’.$item->id;
I hope that this helps.
Also there must be a Joomla routine that actually generates the names rather than the ID numbers for SEF. If anyone knows which one it is the let me know and I will post a fix to use those instead.

I want to use the Joomap component to generate a sitemap with the Virtmuemart displayed. I do not see any method of doing this with the Joomla 1.5 version of the component. I presume it is not yet in place. Is it coming soon?

What a delight. Of all the components I ever installed this one has taken the least time to set up. With sh404sef and joomla 10.0.15 it works just great!
The only minor thing I noted is the title is not set for the site map page, so it does not show ‘mosconfig(sitename) - Site Map’ in the history list. That’s really such a minor thing, but no one else mentioned it so I just pass it up in case you wish to change it.

I think there is a little bug in you SQL Querystring, which creates the tree(nodes). There is no select attrib for the type (joomla.php, frontend, line 139)…
Additional i added a little line into
joomla.html.php line 44: $node->browserNav = 3;
to eliminate the link for a separator.

Hi. I am having trouble with the article links generated by Joomap. For example, under my “Sold” menu, which is a blog listing by section, my article link for id #70 shows up as “http://arteuphoria.com/sold/70.html” which results in a 404 page. (Obviously I have SEF turned on and am using .htaccess.)
My articles show up correctly when they are addressed as http://arteuphoria.com/component/content/article/70.html. Is there any way I can get Joomap to generate a link to my article that works?

I want to connect Joomap 2.06 with Phoca gallery 2.2.3. To do this I used Datso gallery plugin and modified it according to Phoca tables. But if there is only one menu item of Phoca gallery kind that’s OK. If there are 2 ore more menu items of Phoca - problems with displaying occure. Adding a Sitemap to your Joomla 1.5 website.
1. Download a version of Joomap that supports Joomla 1.5.
2. Logon as Administrator on your Joomla website and use the Extensions menu Install/Uninstall function to install Joomap then select “Components” in the administration menu. Find Joomap in the dropdown and click on it.
3. This brings you to the Joomap Configuration Window and the Menus tab is shown.
4. Select the Menus that you want to appear on the Sitemap. Only show items that are Public and be sure to disable show for items that are restricted access in your site.
5. You can use the arrows to move up or move down each menu and control where the contents of the menu will appear in the sitemap list. When you are done click on the Save Icon and also the Backup Settings Icon.
6. Select one of your menu’s (usually the top menu) and add a new menu item called Site Map. Click on the Change Type Button in the Menu Item Type box.
7. In the Select Menu Item Type tree, expand Internal Link by clicking on the arrow and find Joomap and click on it to select it. This will take you back to the previous screen and the Link will now be updated to show “index.php?option-com_joomap”. You can also link to the URL
http://www.”yourwebsite.com”//index.php?option=com_joomap [Don’t forget to replace “yourwebsite.com” with the actual URL of your website.
This is all you have to do if you simply want to display just a Sitemap on your site.

Adding Search Engine Optimization using Google to your Website.
1. Open a new browser window and go to http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/
2. Logon using your google account. If you don’t have one, sign up for one.
3. On the dashboard, use the form to submit the URL of your website and click the add site button. Do not close the window yet.
4. Open a new browser window and go to http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/site-management/site-map and search for and download the Google Sitemaps - Verification Key Plugin.
5. Logon as Administrator on your Joomla website and use the Extensions menu Install/Uninstall function to install the plugin. Then click on the Plugin Manager function in the same Extensions menu.
6. Locate the Plugin [It may be called System - GoogleSiteMap] Click on it to Edit the plugin parameters.
7. Go back to the Browser window where the Google Dashboard is open. Click on “Verify your Site” and select “Add a Meta Tag” in the Choose Verification Method drop down list.
8. Copy the Meta Tag into Notepad. Do not close the window just yet.
9. From Notepad copy only the information contained between the ” ” in the content= field and paste this information into Parameters box in the open Plugin Manager in the form GoogleSiteMap Key and click on Save.
10. Go back to the Google window and click on the Verify Button. It may take a few minutes. Once it is done, the google site should show an Overview window and a menu. Select Sitemap in the menu. Do not close the window yet.
11. Go back to the Joomla Administrator window and open the Joomap configuration from the Components menu and this time click on dislay tab.
12. Copy the URL shown next to Google Sitemap: in the Google Sitemap box and paste it into the submit sitemap form. Logout of all windows and you are done!

I’ve added joomap to http:www.catfordhighschool.co.uk at http://www.catfordhighschool.co.uk/sitemap.html
A week later, google webmasters is informing me there are 24 URL errors (the same 24 are Not Found) in the submitted sitemap (http://www.catfordhighschool.co.uk/index2.php?option=com_joomap&view=google&no_html=1). They are all linked from http://www.catfordhighschool.co.uk/sitemap.html where I publish the Joomap, and they are the news articles listed within News, but before General School News.
This seems to happen because News is a section. When I disable ‘expand section contents’ in the component prefs, these links disappear from the sitemap. I’ll update with news if the errors disappear from Google Webmasters….

I like it but the component is adding something like this /&Itemid=xx (xx=differents numbers) at the external links so the result is “Page Not Found”.

My ISP’s server crashed. The backup of my website was 3 months old which meant I had to add all the articles I had written since this time. I upgraded from Joomla 1.5.6 version to Joomla 1.5.10. Since then my website has been acting weird. I wrote a tutorial previous to this Joomla update on how to install Joomap e.g. http://www.fandangle.com.au/joomla-tutorials/88.html as you can see the site map now only shows the article number 88 and doesn’t show the article name.html I am assuming this is as a result of the Joomla ver 1.5.10 security updates. I have Google Adsense and the Google Webmaster Tools is show 38 errors in my website map. I uninstalled Joomap and reinstalled and followed the instructions to install the Googlemap plugin as suggested on your website. I hope this alert has been helpful so you can update Joomap to deal with these errors.
I think Joomap is an excellent compent and it would be a shame to see die with Jooomla’s updates. Hope you can fix this Koder.

Joomap is creating problems as I stated in my previous email. Google Webmasters Tools is telling me I have 38 errors relating to the sitemap. I have noticed Joomap only shows the (SEO) parent menu paths correctly (http://www.fandangle.com.au/about-fandangle.html) But when it comes to the child (articles) it doesn’t show the full path (http://www.fandangle.com.au/about-fandangle/74.html) it only shoes the Joomla article number minus the article title. It has only happened recently so I assume it may be the Joomla 1.5.10 security update. Joomap is an excellent component and it would be a shame to see Joomap come to an end and no longer useful. Hope you can find a solution Koder

We are having an issue with the links Joomap creates. The links contain the html equivalent of ampersand instead of the ampersand itself. I can find no reference to this error so I assume it’s something very basic that we are doing wrong. Please help.

The issue I am having with Joomap mentioned in my previous emails (child links only showing article number not alias title) appears to be affecting everyone who upgraded to Joomla 1.5.10. Joomla 1.5.10 install.php is in a different location which may be causing the Joomap problems. Here is a link discussing this issue:

I have checked Google Webmaster and it is saying that my sitemap (Joomap) has duplicates e.g. http://www.fandangle.com.au/movies/110-making-of-elephants-dream-part1.html

The duplicate http://www.fandangle.com.au/movies/110.html is a result of joomap which cuts out the article title and only shows the article number.
This has issue has happened since I upgraded from Joomla 1.5.9 to 1.5.10 I am assuming that some thing has changed in version 1.5.10 coding which has made Joomap 2.06 Beta 2c (for Joomla 1.5.x) obsolete.
I hope Koder can fix this. Other wise I will have to uninstall Joompa from my website and inform my visitors who are reading my Joomap tutorial that Joomap is no longer working and not acceptable to Google Webmaster.

On my joomla 1.5 website site I installed Joomap 2.06 Beta 2c (for Joomla 1.5.x).
Some of my items in the menus are external links,
in the sitemap, the link for those external links is incorrect
For example the link for about us (which should be http://www.mysite.com/about.html) is http://www.mysite.com/about.html&Itemid=42 (the number 42 matches the menu itemID)
Is there a fix to it?

I used your Joomaps so that I could sent my sitemap to google. It installed fine and did its job, however, now none of my menus work! I can click on the button on the top menu, , but the submenu under my main point to either nothing at all or the same 1 or two modules. I have tried deleting the sub-menu items and then renaming them, then associating the module that makes up the content on that page, but it still points to the same thing. So, when it first happend I got scared and I just uninstalled Joomap, but it didnt fix the problem, now my site is really messed up and I dont know what to do about it. Please help, I built this site by myself and it took me months. Please help me.

Installed Joomap in J1.5.12. and made link in the main menu.
Works fine for unregistered visitors, but registered visitors receive a 403 error page saying that they are not authorised to access the page.

I’ve just installed Joomap using the tutorial posted by doogalazza (thank you !) and created a SiteMap item in my Top menu. Installationa is not enough, you need to create a menu item of a Joomap type.
Use a link then, eg index.php?option=com_joomap to use it elsewhere.
I used it in a footer section too.

to fix the extrnal url breaking add the following to around line 54 in joomap.html.php:
default:

if you have multiple extrnal urls you could load them into an array and for each over the array the. other wise if you just have a few just add a few ifs like i have shown.

I installed joomap today and it seems to be working OK.
However, I am trying to control the order the articles within a category are displayed. Joomap does not seem to inherit the order specified in advance paramters of of the menu link.
For example, the following articles were created in chronological order 1 to 4:
Article 1
Article 2
Article 3
Article 4
They are displayed
Article 4
Article 3
Article 2
Article 1
I want them to be in the order:
Article 1
Article 2
Article 3
Article 4
This is the literal order number for each article.
Any ideas on this one? I am working on a localhost.

I’m using Joomap 2.06 Beta 2c (for Joomla 1.5.x). Joomap is not giving the full url. I have SEF and Mod Rewrite enabled. It’s putting the id number, but not the alias in the URL for the content items. So everything throws a 404 error. Here’s an example:
Actual URL: http://www.mysite.com/learning-center/43-getting-started/104
Joomap reports: http://www.mysite.com/learning-center/43-getting-started/104-overview
Is this a bug with 2.06 betac or with my configuration?

I have installed the beta version of this plugin on several sites. On my own site it works well google has indexed 23 pages out of 25 submitted. On the others though such as neishasniche.co.uk google has only indexed 2 out of the 20 submitted. Similar results have been found on the other sites. The manually created sitemap using xml I seem to be getting most pages indexed without a problem. On some sites I really don’t want to be continuously updating the sitemap which is why a plugin like yours is so useful.

Sorry for seeming stupid, I have worked out how to use this component and it is great, however I want to embed the full map at the bottom of every page, not just a link to the map, but all the content and links etc. I cannot work out how to do this, is there a module than can do this or someway. I am having a problem after install, the component is not displaying the titles of some of the menus (it displays the 2nd and last menu name as a title, but no others) and it is not expanding the categories of the last section, so I only get the first article in the section. I found that Joomap 2.06 Beta2 in Joomla 1.5.14 resolve friendly URLs in adifferent way than i.e. frontPage component.
I propose to change following lines:
$node->link = ‘index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=’.$item->id;
in content.plugin.php to:
$node->link = ContentHelperRoute::getArticleRoute($item->slug, $item->catid, $item->sectionid);

Good extension, but I have a problem with the Russian language. His letters are not displayed, displays the funky characters. Correct a stable version.

Configured the compoent fine.
Added to menu fine. Shows up fine.
Deleted 2 menu items.
Site map does not change. Deleted items still displayed.
Deleted Cache. Deactivated and reactivated map. No Change 2 deleted menu items still display.

I was wondering if you could extend the functionality to include the menus on the top tabs. I have quite a lot of menus that are on the top and have drop down menus underneath these and I have noticed that it does not map these.

I have solved this issue:
Use of undefined constant _JOOMAP_CFG_INCLUDE_LINK - assumed ‘_JOOMAP_CFG_INCLUDE_LINK’ in /home/www/****/web/administrator/components/com_joomap/tmpl/config_display.php on line 34
_JOOMAP_CFG_INCLUDE_LINK:
by doing this: I have looked for this string _JOOMAP_CFG_INCLUDE_LINK and found out that in my version (spanish) it was not defined. So I copied from german/english into spanish in file /administrator/components/com_joomap/languages/spanish.php, at line 30 and translated it. Solved.
I have also solved this (this I don’t know if it may have side effects):
sitemap :
Trying to get property of non-object in /home/www/****/web/administrator/components/com_joomap/plugins/content.plugin.php on line 218
By adding if (isset(oldItem->id)){ … } enclosing “$menu->setActive($oldItem->id);”

Hi - Superb component - many thanks. One small issue though.
I have Joomap 2.06 Beta2 running on Joomla 1.5.15 and SEF Advance. The problem is that on every menu item that is an external link Joomap generates an item number for the link eg:
a link should be: http://www.therealdr.com/store/playa-dorada-excursions-65/ but on Joomap it reads:
http://www.therealdr.com/store/playa-dorada-excursions-65/&Itemid=574 and therefore gives a 404 error as its not found.
Do you have any idea as to why this is happening ?
